BBQ Sauce

Fact: sometimes there is just no substitution for a good old BBQ Sauce, but why eat a store bought one when it’s packed full of stabilisers, refined sugar, artificial colours, flavours, preservatives and much worse! Take a look at this popular Smokey BBQ Sauce ingredients list, it even have caramel 150 which is a known carcinogen. It’s way better to make your own using this simple recipe and it tastes better than the bottled crap!
BBQ Sauce
Makes 2 cups
Ingredients:
1 ¾ cups tomato passata/tomato puree
½ cup honey or rice malt syrup
½ cup apple cider vinegar
¼ cup tomato paste
4 anchovies
2 tbsp coconut sugar
2 tbsp coconut aminos
1 tbsp fish sauce
2 tsp sweet smoked paprika
It’s very important to use the right paprika as normal paprika won’t give it the smokey BBQ flavour
1 tsp chili flakes or powder or crushed fresh chili
1 heaped tsp Dijon mustard
½ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp ground gloves
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
½ tsp pepper
1 pinch Himalayan or Celtic Sea salt
Ingredients:
Place all ingredients into a saucepan on a medium heat and bring to the boil, stirring occasionally.
Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook 30 minutes or until the sauce has reduced by half. Stir occasionally.
Allow the sauce to cool before transferring it into a clean, recycled glass jar. It can be kept in the fridge for up to 10 days.

This is the sweet smoked paprika that I use. It’s called Bolepo Sweet Smoked Paprika and I bought it from a specialty Italian grocer in Western Australia.
